Plein air painting and life drawing

The French term plein air means out of doors and refers to the practice of painting entire finished pictures out of doors. I discovered plein air painting in 2022 when I signed up for the Dublin Plein air festival. I loved it and the camaraderie of meeting other artists. Since then I’ve been trying to do it as much outdoor painting and drawing as possible and attend many of Ireland’s summer plein air festivals..

When I’m not working en plein air I paint in my studio at home and have been delving deeper and deeper into abstract art which is heavily influenced by my work en plein air. I also enjoy life drawing and try to get in at least one live session every month or so with a live model although these days its mostly on zoom.
